Cognitive Science: The Fuel for a Successful Launch of the Globally Engaged Learner

Just as the biological sciences provide the principles upon which modern medicine is based, cognitive science provides the principles upon which current educational practices should be based. However, most faculty and administrators are unaware of cognitive science concepts, such as metacognition and judgment of learning. Concepts such as these can serve
as the basis for designing activities that motivate students to become fully engaged in the learning process and to take responsibility for their own learning. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to cognitive science findings that can be used to improve teaching and learning, and will provide a variety of strategies that can be used to help all students experience meaningful, transferable learning.
