Keeping the Touch in Technology 2004:

Dimensions of Learning: Portals for Success

"With the international economy evolving toward a global network organized around the value of knowledge, the capacity of people and organizations to use technological developments wisely, . has emerged as a critical societal concern" (Donald Hanna).  At its seventh annual meeting, the Teaching in Higher Education (THE) Forum focused on examining various dimensions of our knowledge enterprise. We looked to the future and how our technological tools are influencing the way that we deliver knowledge and develop expertise in light of who our students are and what they expect from us.  Are our students our customers in any sense? Are higher education faculty more directly tied to the economic well-being of their state or region than was previously understood?  Is our role as educators expanding? Are we being called to move beyond dispersing knowledge to designing and constructing learning environments? We reflected on these and many more questions during the conference. We uncovered new ideas and insights as we shared and learned together about the newest dimensions of knowledge delivery. As always, the conference showcased important developments in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning, professional development, and assessment.
