THE Forum is a showcase conference that is uniquely interdisciplinary and
faculty-driven. Its purpose is to support excellent teaching and learning
through the dissemination of successful, innovative instructional
strategies, especially those that involve the integration of technology. In
a supportive atmosphere of sharing, faculty can network with colleagues to
develop further innovations. Faculty participants always take from their
conference experience concrete, proven ideas for improving their teaching.

In its seven years
of existence, it has steadily grown from a regional to a national conference,
with participants coming, at first, primarily from Louisiana and now from
twenty-five states. The conference content has been rich and diverse.
Plenary speakers have included titans of distance education and e-learning
such as Sir John Daniel of the Open University, Gary Bachula of Internet2,
and best-selling authors Rena Palloff and Keith Pratt.
Since its inception,
participants and staff of THE Forum have discussed ways to further disseminate
innovative teaching strategies presented during the conference. For the
conference's sixth outing, the decision was made to offer a selective
conference Proceedings online. The Electronic Proceedings provides an
expanded showcase for the most innovative and interesting ideas presented
during the conference. By making it available online, the work of these
conference participants is accessible to an even broader audience. Invitation
to publish in the Proceedings is based on a pre-conference peer review
of conference proposals. Thus, THE Forum is serving not only its attendees,
but the whole of the higher education academy.
